It’s no secret that I’m a jeans and tee kind of girl. I reach for denim almost every day whether it’s for day or night. In the summer time, however, regular denim isn’t practical and denim shorts are not always appropriate. That’s where the denim pencil skirt comes in. It’s such a great alternative because just like a great pair of jeans, it looks great with everything from graphic tees to a blouse and blazer. I had been on the hunt for the perfect distressed version and I finally found it with this one.
When Hallmark challenged me to style a summer look inspired by Hallmark Signature, I knew this skirt was going to be involved. The card I chose is a beautiful glittery star card that reads: ‘Congratulations…It’s your time to shine!” It seems appropriate since I just graduated from grad school (and I mean let’s be honest who doesn’t love all things glittery!) The summer occasion I was going for was a summer brunch (minus the June gloom we get in LA that was in full effect) to celebrate, and though you might be sick of hearing about graduations by now, it was so much work and such a big accomplishment I feel like it’s perfectly acceptable to celebrate a little bit longer.
For the outfit I went with the color palette of the card -teal with some touches of silver and gold and grabbed my summer style must have -the perfect denim skirt. I reach for blue tones a lot and though I’ve had this blouse a long time, it rarely gets worn so this style challenge was a good excuse. I am really into simple stackable jewelry lately as you’ve probably noticed and I always love an excuse to mix metals.
(Side note, these photos were taken after brunch so my blouse tuck was a little sloppy at that point…hashtag sorry not sorry because brunch was gooood.)

The skirt is great. I have been looking for one like that. Zara had one like that two years ago and I regret not getting it. Gin http://fashion4therealpeople.blogspot.com
