I’ve mentioned a time or two that I am a pretty health conscious person. I am gluten and dairy intolerant, and have to be very careful about what I am putting in my body. I also workout and just like the way I feel when I am taking care of myself.

That being said I really love wine. I love everything about it, the taste, the ritual, getting together with friends and socializing with it… But sometimes if I am doing a cleanse or on a mission to lose a few pounds, I have to avoid alcohol and that can be a bummer especially in the summer. I have found ways around pretty much every dietary restriction I have, so it really isn’t surprising I figured out a way around that one too!

I recently discovered Fre Alcohol-Removed wines which are perfect for creating a summery ‘mocktail.’ They are a great alternative to consuming alcohol when you are trying to be good, but at the same time allow you to be social and not feel like you are missing out. I love sangria but it typically contains a lot of sugar. I created a sugar free version I think you are going to love!

So how does it work, I mean how the heck do you remove alcohol from wine? Well I asked myself the same question and here is the anwer:

Through the de-alcoholization process of producing Fre, less than one half of one percent of alcohol remains in the wine. To make Fre, the winemakers use the revolutionary spinning cone column to remove alcohol while preserving the delicate fragrances and flavors of the wine. The finished product is a fresh, delicious beverage with all of the characteristic aromas and flavors of premium wine, but with less than 0.5% alcohol and half the calories of traditional wine.

Sugar Free Healthy Sangria Recipe

You’ll need:

1 bottle of wine or Fre Alcohol Removed Wine

A mixture of fruit (I used an orange, peach, lemon 1/2 cup frozen cranberry, 1 cup frozen strawberries and 1 /2 cup frozen blueberries)

1 bottle of sparkling mineral water

optional: Stevia to taste

Directions:

Cut up the fruit and place in a large pitcher. Pour the wine over the fruit and stir it around so all of the fruit is infused. Top with sparkling water. If you prefer it unsweetened then you can refrigerate overnight to allow the fruit to fully infuse the wine for maximum flavor. If you like it sweet you can add Stevia to your liking before refrigerating. After 24 hours garnish a stemless wine glass with a sliced orange, pour and enjoy!
