The arrival of spring often causes people to clean and purge and make way for the new. Some clean out their closets, other deep clean their homes but I have decided to change my hair. I went back and forth on whether to cut bangs (I have been debating this for years) or color it, but finally settled on the color since I am immensely lazy when it comes to my hair and bangs are far too high maintenance (precisely why I’ve never pulled the trigger.)
Balayage is all the rage in hair right now but I have seen some really BAD versions. I decided if I was going to do it, I wanted something very specific. I did not want to be blond, but I also did not want orange, brassy hair either. I have seen lots of dark haired girls try to go ombre or get Balayage that look like they are a damaged straw version of carrot top. No thanks!
I came to the conclusion that if I was going to do this, I needed someone who really knows what they are doing, so I teamed up with Matt Rezaiyan to start this lengthy process and of course, bring you along for the ride.
After telling Matt about my dramatic past we came up with a plan of action. A little back history: the only time I ever lightened my hair, a stylist who said she was going to do ‘caramel’ highlights, actually ended up turning my hair blonde and burning it so bad, pieces all around the front of my head broke off leaving me with a yellow halo. It was very traumatic and left me terrified to ever take bleach to my hair again. In light of this, Matt decided the only way to go would be a long and slow road. I have colored my hair with semi permanent color for years, and the process to lift that would take several sessions if I wanted to maintain the integrity of my hair without burning and drying it out. I was more than happy with that decision because I know I have an exceptionally good hair situation and doing anything to ruin would be, well… stupid.
The first appointment we colored the roots and lifted a few pieces throughout to see how my hair did. It handled that pretty well with no breakage so I went in for a second round a week and a half later. This lightened things a little more. After we how that goes, I will go in for round three which will probably be in a few weeks. I will definitely keep you guys posted as I go and share pics of each stage until I get to the desired look.
You guys should definitely hit Matt up if you want someone who really cares about making you feel and look beautiful. He performs his magic at Salon True in Sherman Oaks. Make sure if you hit him up you tell him I sent you and he’ll take extra good care of you!
