As I have mentioned several times, I am headed to London and if you are a regular reader, you know I am going for a few reasons. One, I got a fellowship as a foreign journalist to write about health and obesity in the UK. The other, is to go to fashion week. I also decided after that whirlwind I was going to need some serious r&r so I added a few days in Mykonos at the end of the trip. That being said, packing for a trip like is quite a challenge. The airline restrictions on the small European airlines are insane (44lbs!) and costly, so as a result everything needs to be packed in one suitcase. So how to pack for the role of journalist (sophisticated) fashionista (on trend) and island godess (well duh)…I have it down to a science (3 years in a long distance relationship will do wonders for your packing skills!) so I teamed up with Carefree to give you some of my tips on packing like a pro:
- The first thing I do is plan each and every outfit down to the accessories. A long time ago I found this awesome outfit planner on Popsugar and I have had it on my computer ever since. It comes in such handy, because when you plan your outfits you won’t overpack and you won’t spend too much time on your trip struggling with what to wear.
- I also swear by compression bags, especially for an over seas trip. You stick your clothes in, suck the air out and it flattens them like a pancake. You will get twice as many items in your suitcase and still have plenty of room. I got mine from Amazon and they were only $10!
- For my beauty products I love having a hanging pouch. It’s great for keeping all my smaller things together, it rolls up and ties and when I arrive I can hang it on the door. In Europe bathrooms are very small so being able to spread your stuff out on a counter top is usually not an option. This makes things easier than digging through your suitcase and keeps everything all in one place.
- For all the leakable liquids I put them in a plastic pouch by themselves so they don’t leak all over everything and for dealing with my feminine needs I have a separate pouch for my Carefree products that can easily be thrown in my purse.
Hope you enjoyed seeing a behind the scenes look at my packing process. Make sure you follow my European adventures on instagram!
