A Night Out with My New Bangs

Bangs

Last week I took you behind the scenes of my hair makeover and today I’m sharing some pics that were snapped a few days later. I had an event to attend and the bangs were making their public debut. Everyone has been so vocal about them and it really means a lot. It was interesting to watch people’s reaction when they first saw me. There were a lot of double takes just like I was doing every time I walked by a mirror the first day.

I mentioned in that bts post that this is the first time in my life I’ve ever had bangs, so it’s a whole new world. Here are a few things I’ve learned so far:

  1. The wind is no longer my friend. What was once a photo shoot gift, is now a curse. It went from making me look glamorous to making me look like dumb and dumber.
  2. Putting on makeup is hard. I now have to deal with moving the bangs out of the way to properly apply makeup to my forehead and do my brows.
  3. I no longer have to stress over perfect brows. They usually take me awhile due to my perfectionist nature and wanting to get them even, but now I can do them quickly and move on.
  4. They must be tended to – immediately. After my first wash I let them air dry while I did my makeup. Then I tried using a flat iron to style them…BIG mistake. If you let them air dry, they will decide what direction they are going to go in, and good luck trying to tell them different.

Needless to say, my first wash and style attempt was not pleasant. There may have been some cursing followed by full scale panic. But luckily a friend who’s a seasoned bang pro came in and saved the day. She took me to Ulta where I picked up a round brush and some styling wax, apparently must have bang tools. She told me to blow dry them with the brush while they’re wet and use the wax to make them go in the right direction. I promptly went home and after using my new purchases, crisis was averted. As it turns out, even with a keratin treatment, bangs are a lot of work!

I really love the bangs! I’ve had them for as long as I can remember so I feel your pain.. They really have a mind of their own!

Bangs are definitely a lot of work but so few of us can pull them off, so welcome to our select little club! I find they really only get in my way when it’s really humid and I want them off my forehead, or when I want to go swimming and actually go underwater (this doesn’t happen often) and I end up looking stupid afterwards…but otherwise bangs are awesome and definitely can make you look edgy and glam at the same time, which I know you love!

Thanks Lisa! I was a bit concerned about doing it in hot weather which is why I thought going into fall might be the prefect time. It's an adjustment that's for sure!! xoxo

Your bangs look amazing. I had bangs for roughly a year and I loved them. The problem is I have naturally very curly hair. I would straighten my hair with GHDs and the bangs would look all spikey and ridiculous on day 1. Day 2 they looked perfect and then by day 3 they were a greasy mess! When i had bangs previously I was about 28 and everyone said I looked 18. I'm now 37 and really want them again to try and achieve a more youthful look again. I've been thinking about getting a keratin treatment, so I don't have to worry about the straightening irons, but I just can't afford it. I have seen some home Keratin treatments for sale on http://www.canada.for-sale.com. Would I be completely mad to try and treat my hair with keratin at home by myself or has anyone had any experience with this? Thank you, Susie

I think if you do enough research and feel confident you know what to do, there is nothing wrong with doing it at home. I liken it to dying your hair at home. One can definitely mess it up, but if you research it and follow instructions it can be great. Just know your limitations (ie. bleaching at home is not a great idea) Hope that helps!
