Men’s grooming, from a woman’s perspective, seems to be pretty basic, am I right? But recently when Harry’s asked us to try out their razor blades, I learned that it’s not quite as simple as I had thought.
WHO THEY ARE
If you haven’t heard of them, Harry’s was started by two college friends Jeff Raider & Andy Katz-Mayfield who worked together, traveled together and shared thousands of ideas. They built Harry’s to reflect their passions and values: affinity for simple design, appreciation of well-made things, and a belief that companies should make the world a better place. Also, they were tired of paying so much for razors.
Whether you are a man or woman, the cost of razors is a bit much. Jeff and Andy wanted to create a product that was not only amazing, but also budget friendly but this wasn’t as easy as it sounds. In order to do it, they bought a German factory, which allowed them to break the decades-long cycle of big brands over-designing and overcharging and focus on high quality, fair prices and customer satisfaction.
WHY THEY ARE GREAT
When John was testing the razor, I was shooting the photos and he stopped and said “I will say this…this is the best razor I have ever used.” That is a pretty big statement so what made him love it?
Apparently, when guys have a thicker beard with coarse hair, they need to shower before shaving, in order to let the hair soften and then shave immediately when they are done. If not, the razor will pull on the hair causing irritation, and cuts. We shot this about 15 minutes after he showered and he had absolutely none of this. He was definitely impressed. He went so far as to say that he got a better shave 15 minutes post shower with the Harry’s razor than he did immediately after the shower with a big named razor.
SOMETHING ELSE I LEARNED
Every guy looks forward to putting on a new razor, but there is a decision that has to be made. They can get a close shave, or have a comfortable shave, but they can’t have both.
With a 5 blade razor, typically they can get a close shave on the first pass, however it will cause skin irritation. With a 2-3 blade razor there is less irritation, but then it takes more passes to get a close shave. (Well I guess beauty dilemmas are not just a woman thing!)
With the Harry’s razor John said he had a close shave with absolutely no irritation, pulling or cuts and he will never buy a big named razor again.
So whether you are thinking about buying this for your man, or you like using men’s razors to shave your legs, these have my guy’s A+ stamp of approval and at an extremely affordable price point. And just like that razor burn is a thing of the past…it’s a win, win.
XO,
Great blog!
