Summer is around the corner, and as the weather is warming up, it’s really getting me into a bikini state of mind. I’m starting to buckle down and focus my wellness goals, so I can feel good all summer long when it’s time to go out and enjoy it.
To prep for getting fit while staying home, I’ve been changing up my routine and trying some products to make it easier. Here are some things I’ve been implementing if you have been struggling with motivation and need some inspo.
GETTING SOME VITAMIN D
Since we are staying home, it is important to get out in the sun at least once a day. I find it super motivating to go for a power walk first thing in the morning. It sets the tone for my day and makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something. Sunscreen is key and I’ve been using the VICHY LIFTACTIV PEPTIDE-C SUNSCREEN SPF 30
I like this because it is double duty moisturizer with SPF. Not only sun protection, but also anti-aging! It’s paraben-free, targets visible signs of collagen loss, wrinkles, dark spots, dull and uneven skin tone, loss of definition and firmness. It contains plant-based Phyto Peptides (to fight signs of collagen loss), Vitamin C (an antioxidant known to help brighten skin) and 15 Mineral-Rich Vichy Volcanic Water (helps strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier to protect skin against some aggressors)
Speaking of vitamins, I’ve also been taking these Nature’s Truth Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies. I used to take ACV shots but I found myself not being consistent because I couldn’t get past the taste. These actually taste good and give you 600mg of ACV! They are also free of Gluten, Wheat, Yeast, Milk, Lactose, Soy, Artificial & Flavoring, are vegan & NON-GMO.
FINDING THE RIGHT FITNESS FRIENDS
Ok so you are probably thinking, fitness friends? But we are staying home! Not THOSE kind of friends…the kind that make working out easier!
Firstly, a great pair of headphones is KEY. For me, music is the difference between a mediocre workout and a serious sweat session. It just sets the tone and gets me motivated. I’ve been trying these sports headphones by Aftershokz and I am LOVING them. They have open-ear listening with nothing inside or over your ears which makes them SO comfortable. A few other cool things: they have 6 hour battery life they are sweat and water resistant and they are super light weight. I love that I don’t have to fuss with wires or with buds popping out of my ears and I can just focus on my workout. You can get 15% off these wireless headphones – expires 5/15/2020!
Having the right socks is something most people probably don’t think about, but can also be a very good fitness friend to have. How good your feet feel will definitely affect your workout. I’ve been wearing the No Nonsense Feel-Good Sport Socks which offer compression only where you need it. These have Graduated Compression that rejuvenate active feet, they also have arch support, are made in the USA and sold at Rite Aid. They come in two styles – No Nonsense No Show and Crew.
Something to help you track your progress is also super helpful and nothing does this quite like a smartwatch. I am obsessed with the Suunto 7.
It’s funny because until now, I had never found a smart watch I loved because they all looked clunky and never really went with anything other than workout wear, but this one is SO CHIC that I want to wear it all the time. Some of the cool things it does; it tracks your sports accurately with over 70 sport modes, as well as onboard GPS, wrist hear rate, and has the ability to sync to other apps like Strava & TrainingPeaks. It also makes your everyday easier with Wear OS by Google, which allows you to be informed by your favorite apps, see your next meeting or to-do list, easily check calls, quickly view incoming messages from your watch, and experience Google Pay and Google Assistant. So handy! I like to use the watch to track my workouts, heart rate and daily steps.
NOURISHING MY BODY
I don’t know what it is about the word ‘nourish’ that just clicks for me. It makes me think twice about eating things that won’t give my body the nutrients it needs to help me reach my goals.
I’ve been using the Pink Simply Collagen Beauty to Go because the packets are super easy to throw in my bag and take anywhere. It’s unflavored so I can mix it in with whatever I’m drinking, water, coffee, smoothie or even my morning oats. This powder contains types 1 & 3 grass-fed pasture raised pure Collagen Peptides and no added fillers. It’s also non-gmo, dairy free, gluten free, and has no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
I’ve also been trying to incorporate more green leafy veggies into meals. Having a healthy salad at lunch or dinner is a great way to do it. I’ve been trying the Healthy Choice Power Dressings that add flavor to my salad while keeping it healthy at 45 calories or less per serving. There are 4 flavors and are made with real vegetables – Power Dressing in Creamy Italian is my favorite.
REST!
This might sound a little obvious, but really…I’ve noticed myself going to bed later and it is really affecting my energy levels during the day. I’ve been implementing one of the hardest things to do – put my phone away. I’ve been trying to commit to doing it 30 minutes before bed and instead, reading a book. My current read is ‘Ignite Your Light: A Sunrise-to-Moonlight Guide to Feeling Joyful, Resilient, and Lit from Within’ by Jolene Hart
It’s kind of the perfect thing to get into the right mindset to make a health, wellness and/ or fitness change. It’s a guide to beauty, healing, and personal energy that includes delicious recipes, immune-strengthening wellness rituals, and practical steps for bringing happiness and healing into your life. If you’ve been struggling with self-care and want to boost your daily joy, this book is a must read. It’s filled with colorful illustrations and photos, so it’s both a beautiful coffee table book and positive influence.
I’m finding that by reading just a few pages a night, my mind unwinds from the day and I get a more restful sleep while also getting ideas on how I can implement even more positive things into my wellness routine.
I hope these tips help you if you’ve been needing a boost of motivation, inspiration and an overall mindset shift to focus on your health and wellness this spring. I’d love to hear any tips or products that have been helping you out or if you’ve tried any of these!
XO,
