Everyday for at least one hour, I like to be alone.
My favorite time of the day is first thing in the morning when everyone in the world is still asleep, including the birds. I like to be alone with my thoughts and coffee and begin the day in quiet. A lot of my ideas and creativity come during this time but I am not meditating per se. I literally sit and check my email, nibble on breakfast, sip on my coffee and try to begin tackling my to do list. This quiet time sets the tone for the day and is really important to me because it’s the only time I can be completely alone. Since my life is too hectic to take vacations right now, building it into each day keeps me somewhat sane.
Working from home gives me an obvious advantage, but sometimes I may have somewhere to be in the morning. On those days I literally wake up an hour to an hour and a half before I need to get in the shower in order to have that time. I’ve been doing this for years and I will say it was much easier when I lived alone. When my boyfriend moved in it became a bit more challenging. He likes to put the tv on as soon as he wakes up…that was a bit of a problem. I explained to him my need for quiet and at first he looked at me like I was crazy. He just didn’t get why I needed quiet, it didn’t make sense to him. The fact that I’m in grad school was something he could understand so I had to use that card to explain and justify. (Men are from Mars you see…) Now he’s on board and when he gets up will go and sit on his computer in the other room so I still have my separation and quiet time. But I did compromise and give a time limit on how long I needed the quiet so he could turn it on after that. (Thankfully he usually doesn’t.) Anyway the point I am trying to make is, it’s important to take time everyday for yourself. Time to reflect, time to appreciate life, time to just be. Maybe it’s in the sauna at the gym, or an afternoon walk after lunch…but whatever it is for you, I encourage you to try to find the time, build it into your schedule and do it.
Do you guys have any ‘me time’ rituals? I’d love to hear about them!
Ok, let’s talk about this outfit. Lately I have been trying to focus my outfits around at least one spring trend. When wearing trends it is always good to try to find a unique spin on it so it’s not so cookie cutter and has your own personal style thrown in. I liked this floral top because the color was not typical. It’s sheer, so still perfect for the season, but the green is a little unexpected. I also paired it with leather (surprise!) shorts to create an edgy chic vibe as opposed to a super feminine one that usually happens with floral prints.
