For those of you have been following along, here is another installment of #GLProjectMove that has been literally going on for 8 months! If you missed it, let me fill you in.
Last February I had to unexpectedly move and rather than be upset, I took the opportunity to really create a home I was happy with. It has been a very long process and honestly I think there are always ways to change and improve your home space, but I am finally getting the details together and I am so excited. (You can check out my DIY Patio makeover here)
I wanted to share this DIY Ikea hack I did because I really love how it came out. I love the Ikea Besta cabinets because you can mix and match doors, shelves and feet to really make the cabinet function as different pieces. And if you’re like me, where you love the idea of custom furniture but you’re on a budget then you are going to love this.
I decided to use the Besta as a media cabinet and also as a sideboard. The challenge was that the open concept floor plan meant they could clash with each other (too many pieces of boxy furniture can look really bland really quick) I decided to paint the media cabinet this beautiful blue gray color to really give it some personality.
Then I discovered My O’verlays which is the most amazing way to customize your Ikea pieces. They have all kinds of amazing overlay patterns designed specifically for Ikea dimensions. I just love this concept so much! You guys need to go check them out!
For the media cabinet I got the Pippa pattern for the doors and painted them two shades lighter than the rest of the cabinet. I got the door pulls on Amazon.
If you want to see the details on how I made this scroll down and watch the video!
For the sideboard I kept it simple. I used the full size Lappviken doors, the Harper Overlay and used the same pulls. I opted to keep this one white rather than paint it. Doesn’t it look amazing?!
Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of the cabinets and don’t forget to subscribe to my youtube channel!
XO,
Thank you to Ikea and My O’verlays for partnering with me for this post!
Wow — I love what you did with the overlay patterns. I'll have to get an ikea piece just so I can use these overlays!

Hello,
First, I love love love the white cabinet! I want to make one exactly like it! However, I'm new to IKEA and am not sure which storage unit to buy. There are many different options to have it has a drawer or cabinet. I was wondering if you could help me find the exact unit you used? 😀 Amazing work
