Dark circles and under eye hollowing seems to be a gift that keeps on giving. The older we get, the worst it gets and that just makes us look tired. And I don’t know about you, when I look tired, I feel depressed.
Thankfully there are a lot of products that can help, but trust and believe, it takes a village. Unfortunately products alone aren’t going to cut it though, technique is just as important. Difficult under eyes are my specialty, so let’s talk about how to deal with them.
1. Prep
The first thing that needs to happen is skincare. You will need an eye cream but which one will depend on your personal situation.
If you are dry, I would highly recommend the Keihls Eye Cream with Avocado. It is DEEPLY hydrating, and wears beautifully under makeup. You would apply this under the eyes and let it sit for at least 10 minutes until it is fully absorbed.
If you are puffy I would recommend The Phix Caffeine Eye Cream and reusable patches. Apply a generous amount then apply the patches and leave them on as long as you have time for. Once you remove, pat out anything remaining and wait for it to absorb.
2. Color Correction
Color correctors come in a variety of colors and textures. The two major ones I will focus on here are peach and pink. Peach will cancel out darkness and pink with brighten. If you have darkness and hollows, I recommend using both.
For peach, you need to choose a tone that is right for your skin. If your skin tone is light, then you’d probably want a light peach. If you’re medium then you may want a medium peach. If your skin is deep, go for a deeper peach or orange. If your darkness light to medium, I recommend the Sigma Spectrum Color Correcting Duo (code GLAMLATTE gets you $ off) If your darkness is deeper in tone, I recommend the Westmore Beauty Shadow Edit.
How to Apply: Apply an opague layer on the area of darkness ONLY. You don’t want it thick, but should not see the darkness through it. It is very important to keep the corrector in the lines. Our goal here is to match the color to the lighter skin around it. Next let it sit on the skin while you go do other things. What we want is to let the heat of your face evaporate the liquid which will thicken the formula and give us more coverage. After about 5-10 minutes you can lightly tap out. If you still have darkness peaking through you can then add some pink.
For Pink, the tone choice will also depend on your skin tone. You can use pink to brighten and give the illusion of pulling the hollows forward. To help brighten left over darkness you will do the same as you did with the peach, apply on the darkness ONLY. I also apply along the area of the hollows that are casting a shadow. Let it sit just like we did with the peach. After 5-10 minutes gently blend with finger.
3. Conceal
It’s important to keep in mind that concealer typically does not color correct. But if you have difficult under eyes, I recommend getting a concealer with a peach undertone. A great one I recommend is Natasha Denona in the shade R4. It is a thin formula, hydrating and this tone has a beautiful way of correcting and concealing. Some other concealers I love are: Danessa Myricks, Tower 28 and Maxine’s Revenge (code GLAMLATTE10 gets you a discount.) I have an in depth explanation on how to apply in this video

4. Powder
One of the most underrated products for helping to conceal dark circles is powder, particularly loose powder. This business about not being able to wear powder over 45 is nonsense BUT the formula of the powder really matters.
A few things to note, translucent does not mean there’s no color. Some transcluent powders can change the color of your concealer. If your under eye darkness is severe I really recommend a peach powder. As we talked about, peach will cancel out darkness. Pink powders are also great and will brighten.
I like to set with a puff, but some other methods that work are a brush or a sponge. I did a recent video testing the damp sponge setting powder and it was a surprising result.

A few powder formulas I love are Huda Beauty in Cherry Blossom or Peach Pie, O/S Beauty in Ultra Peach, Sigma Beauty in Vanilla Bean and Glamlite in Strawberry Shortcake.
I have an entire undereyes playlist on tiktok but here’s another video going through my entire routine.
