During the summer months, it’s easy to get caught up dressing basic due to the heat. I am guilty of it, but there are definitely ways to take a basic look and make it more interesting. Last week I discussed how to up the chic factor of your summer dress, which similar principals – it’s really all in the accessories.
When it’s hot out, I like to keep it simple, because the last thing I want is to feel weighed down. So here are my tips on the best pieces to use when accessorizing your summer look.
Simple Jewelry
I’ve been obsessed with simple gold pieces for quite awhile and that has continued into this season. I love the idea of a simple cuff like this one. It is light, yet it has details that make it interesting.
Chokers are really on trend right now and I love this camel colored one. It has one pretty jewel that gives it something extra without being heavy or over the top. I also have another version in black.
Here are a few other simple pieces I am loving right now that I think are a great addition to any summer wardrobe.
HATS
I am not a ‘hat girl,” meaning I don’t wear them on a regular basis. In fact, if you look through my outfits here on the site, you may’ve only seen me in a hat a handful of time over the last 6 years. I really need to be in the mood for them, and I of course am very particular on what styles work for me.
For some reason, I have really been in the hat wearing mood this summer, and I have been wearing them alot. I have actually found them to be a great way to accessorize a look with minimal effort. They are lightweight and can tie a look together with ease.
This one I am wearing here is one I got from Old Navy a few years back. It’s a great example of an inexpensive option that really does the job, and is one of my favorites right now.
Here are some other great summer options.
Sunnies
By now, you probably have come to realize my obsession with sunglasses. I did an entire post about them, which you can check out here. I also mentioned them in last week’s post, but I would be remiss if I left them off when discussing summer accessorizing.
I think they are the single easiest way to up your outfit game and they are something everyone needs in the sunny months.
I would go so far as to say, if you are only going to pick one chic accessory, these should be it.
And you don’t have to spend a lot either. I tend to lose them, break them, sit on them, wear them until the screws are popping out…so it’s for that reason I don’t like to spend a lot. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get a game changing pair. The one’s I am wearing here slay and they are only $8!
Here are some more sunny options for both saving and splurging.
A chic carryall
Summer is full of beach and pool days which means we need a cute bag to carry stuff in. I love this leather version because it can work with my outfit (both work and weekend) and also doubles as a beach/pool bag (just keep it away from the water!) But if leather at the beach is a little much for you, there are lots of other chic versions that do the trick. I have a few options below that I love as well.
My Outfit Deets: Dress and Shoes: Just Fab, Bag: Live Fashionable, Hat: Old Navy (old), Sunnies: Go Jane, Cuff: Nashelle, Choker: Nissa
